The Plymouth & District Badminton League’s annual Beckly Cup Tournament is nearing the finale with a Final scheduled for this Friday at the Torpoint & Rame Leisure Centre. A handicapped knock out tournament for Mixed teams representing each club has seen great success for one of this season’s new entries. In the first Semi-Final, Kuasa were at home to Torpoint, and scored a total of 308 aces but with a handicap of +117 in their favour, Kuasa prevailed by 66 aces. The second Semi-Final saw Tavyside, also a League debutant this season, entertain Plymouth Life Centre. PLC built a comfortable lead of 374 but Tavyside benefitted from a +153 handicap. Tavyside found it was not quite sufficient as PLC held onto their lead by just 7aces.
In the Ladies Division, Marjon have found the going tough in this their first season in the League but credit has to be given to the students for turning out for each match with a cheerful and competitive spirit. At home to top of the table Victoria, the students could not keep pace with their visitors who went home with a 0-12 win. Second in the table Plymouth Life Centre were their next visitors who also returned home with a 0-12 victory. The students then travelled to Kuasa where they encountered one of the newest League entrants and a competitive match but could not convert the points that counted as Kuasa built up a 12-0 win. The future looks good for Kuasa who continue to encourage and give opportunities to juniors – including the Lai sisters, Jessica and Jennifer who both featured in this match along with Megan Robins.
